Nokia 7.2 is the latest phone from HMD global to grace it’s 7 mid-range series.  This phone succeeds Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 7 Plus.  It was launched alongside the Nokia 6.2.   One of the Key selling points of this phone is its 48MP rear shooter.  If you are looking for a good mid-range phone in Kenya, 7.2 is one of the devices that you should definitely consider.  It is a good choice for you are fond of Nokia phones and you are looking for a fairly powerful phone with a camera that can take quality shots.

Nokia 7.2 Design & Display

Nokia has been very consistent with making phones with attractive designs. And Nokia 7.2 is no different.  This phone is fairly large, but not too big to fit comfortably in one hand.  All areas of the display are within reach and you can also reach the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.  However, if you’ve got small hands, you might struggle a bit to reach some areas of the screen while holding the phone in one hand.

The power button and the volume rocker are on the right side.  Like other Nokia phones launched in 2019, this phone has the Google Assistant button on the side.  It has a USB type C port at the bottom and a 3.5mm jack that can be quite useful when you want to use wired headphones.

There is a camera bump on the rear, housing three lenses.  As earlier stated, the camera is one of the major attractions to this smartphone.  Last year’s Nokia 7.1 has a dual-lens camera at the back – the 7.2 has a triple-lens camera. The rear bump can be a little annoying when you put your phone on a flat surface. However, if you protect your phone with a back cover, the bump is hardly noticeable.

Nokia 7.2’s body is aluminum.  It is a good-looking phone that feels premium in the hands. This is a big plus, especially if you consider the fact that most competing phones, like the Samsung Galaxy A70, have polycarbonate backs.

There is a tear-drop notch at the front housing the selfie camera and thin bezels around the display. The display is 6.3 inches and it utilizes Nokia’s PureDisplay technology.  This technology enhances the display by improving brightness, color reproduction, and adaptive viewing.  Nokia 7.2 automatically adjusts brightness and color based on the user’s environment.

Hardware and performance

Nokia 7.2 is powered by a 3500mAh battery. You will find a 10W charging adapter in the package.

Like other Nokia handsets, this phone runs Android in its purest form. It is powered by Android 9.0 Pie. Since it is an Android One device, you should expect it to be among the first devices to receive software updates.

This smartphone is equipped with Snapdragon 660 chipset. This is a decent chipset for a handset in Nokia 7.2 price range, but not the best you can find in phones in its class.  It is paired with 6GB of RAM. Onboard storage is 128GB and there is a dedicated microSD slot supporting cards of up to 512GB.

Cameras

The 48MP rear camera is Nokia 7.2’s main highlight. This is a big upgrade of the 12MP camera that graced Nokia 7.1.  At the time of release, the 7.2 was the Nokia phone with the camera with the highest resolution, higher than what you even get in the Nokia 9 PureView.  The 48MP camera is supported by a 5MP depth sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide lens.  If you are looking for a mid-ranger with good photography power, this is perhaps one of the smartphones that should be high on your list.  The rear camera can record videos with 4K resolution.

The front-facing camera is 20MP.

Why you should buy this phone

  • Attractive design
  • Powerful 48 megapixels rear camera
  • Android One experience
  • Fairly affordable
