Redmi Note 9 is another impressive midrange phone from Xiaomi. Like the other Redmi note series, the phone has many stunning specs, including an impressive camera setup, powerful battery with quick charging, P2i-protected Splash proof design, decent RAM and processor duo, sleek design with a stunning display. And much more. In this Redmi Note 9 review, we will discuss this smartphone in-depth to help you know more about it and whether it is the right smartphone for you.
Design and display of the Redmi Note 9 128GB
The Redmi Note 9 does stray too far from other Redmi Note smartphone aesthetics. This smartphone looks almost the same as its Note 8 sibling but adds a bit more to the camera module to fit the rear-facing fingerprint reader. Instead of a centered punch-hole, as is the case with its immediate predecessor, the punch hole in Redmi note 8 is located on the screen’s upper-left corner.
This smartphone’s backside feels like it’s made of glass, but the manufacturer has not confirmed that it is glass. However, we can say with certainty that the front is made of Gorilla Glass 5 while the frame is made of plastic.
This smartphone is equipped with a 6.53-inch IPS LCD panel with a 1080 x 2340px resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This smartphone’s screen to body ratio is 84.37%, which is quite impressive, considering its price. 6.53-inch IPS LCD that it features hits a reasonably remarkable brightness of 450 nits.
Software and performance
Redmi note 9 runs on Android 10 based MIUI 11, which is incredibly easy to use. However, if you are familiar with Xiaomi MIUI, you will realize that there are no any major design changes in MIUI 11 compared to the previous version of the software, but it does have a few additions including, the quick toggle icons in the notification shade and the inclusion of an app drawer.
The inclusion of an app drawer means that you can now choose between having all icons on the home screen or fold them away in the app drawer. This feature is not available in other Redmi line phones. The app drawer is also well-designed. You can easily sort your apps into different categories. The search bar that it features at the bottom of the screen allows an easy search.
Another great thing about MIUI 11 that this smartphone is equipped with is that it offers a few extra features like how notification cards appear in the drop-down menu. MIUI 11 is also quite generous when it comes to battery usage. Besides the usual battery saving feature, MIUI 11 also has a per-app background activity control that allows you to blacklist apps that don’t want or whitelist those you feel are essential.
The fingerprint sensor mounted on the back works flawlessly. Although it is a bit too high on the back and quite hard to reach, the fingerprint sensor is fast, accurate, and reliable. A light touch is enough to unlock the phone in less than a second.
When it comes to performance, the Redmi Note 8 is equipped with MediaTek Helio G85 with 2x Cortex-A75 cores running at 2.0 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The chipset is paired with a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. This chipset is powerful enough to allow you to multi-task without lags. The chipset is paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage space.
Camera
Redmi Note 9 is equipped with four cameras on the back and a front-facing camera. The quad-camera setup is almost similar to that of the Note 9S. AI Quad-camera setup at its rear side, featuring a 48MP f/1.79 Primary ISOCELL Plus sensor, an 8MP f/2.2 118ÃÂ Ultra-Wide-Angle lens, a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor, and another 2MP f/2.4 macro lens. The selfie camera features a 13MP f/2.25 lens that is capable of taking amazing portraits.
Battery life
Redmi Note 9 is powered by a powerful 5,020mAh battery test that allows you to use the phone for hours without charging it. The powerful battery is replenished by a 22.5W type-C fast charger that takes 2hrs, 32mins, and 20sec to get the battery charged from 0%.
Other notable features include 4G VoLTE and Wi-Fi Direct, Mobile Hotspot, Wi-Fi Calling, v5.0 Bluetooth, and A-GPS with Glonass.
